This morning I was lying in bed, listening to the kids playing in their room. Max had pulled out several anatomy books (he has loved anatomy since around age 2) and was showing Khai pictures of blood cells. “LOOK at these! They make up your TISSUE!!! And that tissue? Makes up your BODY.” Khai mostly just wanted to look at the pictures of the eyeball, because it is “the awesomest.”

Soon thereafter, Khai put together a fort with some sheets and a chair or two. Max was impressed, but Khai said he could only come in if he paid three pieces of money. The amazing part? Max went for it — and spent five minutes or so looking for his piggy bank. He shook out the required payment and then entered the fort. “Wow. This is pretty cool, Khai.” Yeah, said Khai. I know.

Holy productive day, Batman! I don’t know what’s going on with me lately, but I actually feel good and have energy. This is something new. Maybe it’s the adrenal supplements and buckets full of vitamins I’ve been taking for three months now? Are they finally kicking in and making a difference? I don’t care what it is– I like it.

Three Terrific Things Thursday kind of fell by the wayside, but today is a fine day to resurrect it. How will I limit myself to only three?

First and foremost, I have a new nephew!!! Oliver Mathias Rosebery was born at 2:47am (7lb 11oz, 20.25 inches). Hurrah! Congrats to Mama Chris, Daddy Matt and big sis Eve. I can’t wait to meet this baby boy in person.

Thing number two: homemade granola. OMG so tasty yummm! Bob’s Red Mill has gluten-free oats now, and I would just like to say THANK YOU, BOB! No-bake cookies, oatmeal cookies, granola… endless possibilities.

Thrrrreee. The boys and I planted several zinnias out front and some sunflowers in the back yard. It was muddy, messy fun. Hopefully they will all survive & thrive. Hopefully I will remember to water them.

I had to fill up the gas container so I could mow the lawn and it cost me $7 to fill that little thing up! What?!!? It might be about time to get a push reel mower. The yard isn’t that big, so it wouldn’t be too much of a pain. The electric mowers look okay, too. Max says he will be old enough to mow the lawn soon– I look forward to turning it all over to him.

Khai is my little gardener; he likes to save the seeds from whatever he’s eating and then plant them out back. He remembers to water them every week or so. I’ve been reading up on gardening– victory gardens, xeriscaping, native plants, composting, seed varieties, and so on & so forth. Will anything come of this? Maybe. I would have to do raised beds if we wanted to eat anything from the garden (and oh! I would!), so that gets into a lot of additional time and money. Still, it would be a great experience for the kids. We’ll see. Fresh tomatoes chopped up with fresh basil… they call me.

Song in my head today: The Polyphonic Spree’s Sonic Bloom. Over and over and over it plays. But I like it.
