Yesterday’s Mario took a trip to Recycle Bin City, where he will vacation amongst the paper scraps for the rest of his days. These are the much simpler versions of Mario and Luigi from Gotorion.com. They did not make my head explode, and for that I am glad.
Please ignore the copious amount of tape and the bit of… Shoe Goo. Their noses wouldn’t stay on, nor would their heads stay attached to their bodies. Desperate times and all that…
My sister-in-law, Christina, is in labor right *now*. I shall soon have a nephew named Oliver!
The song in my head today is Jonathan Coulton’s “That Spells DNA”. Everyone sing along, ok? I had a really good day, for no particular reason at all. It was just happy. And wow, I could use more of those.
What was I thinking?
Gotorion.com has tons of Nintendo (and other) papercraft templates. You know, the tabbed cut-em-out and fold-em variety. When Khai asked me if we could do something fun together, all rational thought ceased and I suggested we do a little Mario papercraft. Hooray! Khai loves Mario! Won’t this be fun?
So, I spend about 15 minutes cutting out millions of tiny pieces. Khai asks when it will be fun. I’m not sure yet! Let me finish cutting and we’ll start folding!
Only that isn’t fun, either, because it’s really hard to get things put together correctly. By this point Khai wanders off to find something FUN. I think I will let Mario sit in pieces for a while. Some pieces might get lost. It will be so very sad. What if he falls into the recycle bin? Poor Mario.
In other happy news, I found a great dress this morning! Josh and I are going out this weekend to celebrate our Otherversary– we met nine years ago on May 7. He’s pretty awesome. I’m glad I had the sense to fall in love with him. :)
Cheap waterguns + paint + paper = FUN

Final painting pics here and here.
This was posted on Metafilter today and immediately, Mike came to mind. I know there are several other Douglas Adams die-hards in my little circle, too… so hey, clicky– Milliways: Infocom’s Unreleased Sequel to Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. (Summary: guy gets to do back-ups of Infocom’s network drives from 1989, finds unreleased sequel, complete with emails, notes, etc. AND two playable prototypes. Then he shares it with the internet because he loves you.)
The boys have no school today, so I predict little to no productivity, but we’ll probably find something fun to keep us out of trouble. There is definitely coffee in my near future.
The word in my head today is obsequious: obedient; dutiful. My brain wants a bigger vocabulary and has to trick me into looking up new words. Eh, it could be worse.
This one time, at a party, in the midst of a heated BSG /Star Trek discussion, the resemblance between Gaius Baltar and Julian Bashir was brought up. My brain ran with it and gave me a very detailed dream about the connection therein: because Dr. Bashir was a mutant, it is SO OBVIOUS that Dr. Baltar *must* be the final cylon. Of course! Those producers think they’re so sneaky! Why hasn’t everyone picked up on this?!? Then I woke up, causing the eureka moment to be much less shiny and amazing.
THE END

For Farris: a dancing walrus.
Josh is the gardener in our family– I’ve got a black thumb. We have a good system, though: he keeps the plants alive and I keep the kids alive. In our first house, we had a beautiful back yard full of irises, morning glories, purple coneflowers, gladioli, and tons of purple heart. I loved that yard. When we moved out, we put some purple heart in a large pot and hoped for the best. Lucky for us, it is very hardy and not only survived the move, but also the transplant to our current yard. It has thrived and is currently growing like crazy now that spring is here.
Today I’m building a website instead of doing housework and running errands. This is a LOT more fun than cleaning. I never claimed to be domestically inclined! It’s all a charade. I can’t figure out a routine that allows me to stay a step ahead of the mess. Is that even possible with kids? I’ve tried FlyLady more than once and for some reason it just doesn’t click. Maybe I should try again and just keep adjusting the schedule to work with my life. Or maybe I need a housewife.
We pass by this melting tree every day on the way to school. It probably happens all the time to dying trees, but I’ve never seen it before. So surreal, sad and beautiful all at once.
