With just minutes to spare… it’s Three Terrific Things Thursday again!
1) Josh is home from New York, and got to see Anne & Eiwe briefly while there. That’s almost like an early Christmas present for him.
2) I marked several things off the giant to-do list today… I’m pretty sure that calls for a celebration of some sort.
3) Christmas lights are up all over our neighborhood and that just makes me happy.
While 5am is nothing to some of you, it’s TOO EARLY for me. Max was up at 5, followed shortly by Khai, and then they were demanding breakfast. Now they want me to play card games with them and amuse them… which is hard because my brain is still asleep. At 8am they were asking when lunchtime would get here. If I feed them again and pretend it’s lunch, I wonder if they would nap for a while? More importantly, I wonder if they would let me nap for a while?
We’re all sick again. This has two days to clear out, as Friday we’re supposed to have Christmas with Josh’s uncle & Granny. That night, I’m going to see the Mavs play with Katie (!!!); Saturday morning we start the long drive to Santa Fe. Must. Get. Well.
I am now required to play Go Fish with Max. Next? Dominoes with Khai. Bets, anyone?
Seriously? It’s Thursday already? How did that happen?
My list for Three Terrific Things Thursday:
1) Max is feeling better today. He has been home from school for the past two days with a cough. I think he’ll be able to go back tomorrrow.
2) Massive craftapalooza with the boys this afternoon! We made candy-cane mice to give to their classmates next week.
3) My boys. Max and Khai are always at the top of my list of happy things– maybe because they make me happy in so many different ways.
Another terrific thing– while Josh was not able to catch a flight home today, he will be on the 6am flight tomorrow morning. Of course I wish he were home already… but at least I know he’ll be here soon.
This week has been crazybusy. Having Max home has been nice since we rarely get alone time, but I’m getting a lot less done than usual. It’s worth it; a few extra-long hugs, him wanting to sit super-close to me while he watches a cartoon– I know that in a few short years he won’t be into that. So I’m soaking it up while I can. (cue the tears)
Now I’m going to eschew the gigantic to-do list and go to bed. Because I can.
My love is overflowing for WordPress. Today there were 158 SPAM comments awaiting moderation on Max & Khai’s website– which means that after a quick scroll-through to assure that none of them were actual comments, I was able to give a clickity to the ‘mark all as SPAM’ button and poof! They were gone! Not a one actually made it onto the site. It’s just so easy! And that makes me happy.
The spammers have also been trying to register for the parents’ website that I set up for the boys’ school. They don’t make it past the email verification, but they keep trying. I’ve had a few hundred attempts at comment-SPAM on my site in recent days, as well. Persistent, aren’t they?
And now for some Spam of a different color! I know I’ve posted this before, and though I don’t know the origin nor the author, it is my most favorite Spam haiku ever:
And who dares mock Spam?
you? you? you are not worthy
of one rich pink fleck
*Spam disclaimer: I have never actually eaten Spam. It seems like it is inherently radioactive and might cause spontaneous mutations upon ingestion. JUST SAY NO.
**Edit: add another 81 attempted spam-comments to the kids’ site. Geez, ppl. Chill. I wonder how many more there will be by morning. They multiply exponentially, like spam-bunnies.
ZOMG! This stuff is SO GOOD. I am seriously considering baking another loaf of bread just so I can eat more of it.

Cascadian Farm Organic Blueberry Fruit Spread
That is all.
From the WTF Files: Christmas Isn’t Safe For Animals (.mp3 link, by of Montreal, found on Optical Atlas). Just… wow. I downloaded Sweetney’s Christmas mix and was just getting around to playing it. This track came on and I had to stop immediately, break out the Google-fu and share it with you, oh beloved ones! Why rent when you can own your own washer and dryer for $225 each? Put it on your Sears card!
This morning I mustered all the energy I could to tackle the shopping. I have one gift left to buy for Josh’s Granny (yay, Amazon!) and one more gift for Khai… then I AM DONE. Of course there’s the wrapping and whatnot but that can be done later, away from the crowds of crazed shopping lunatics. In my pajamas. On my living room floor. While watching Battlestar Galactica. Ha! There’s no way I could wrap presents while watching Battlestar! It sucks me in too much.
My favorite Alien has initiated Three Terrific Things Thursday (aka T^4), in which you post three good things about your day. I tend to think of such things in more of an overall sense, like all that I’m grateful for in my life… so it’s a good exercise to narrow the focus a bit. My three for today?
- successful shopping! (never to be underrated)
- Khai telling me at bedtime, “No more Jesus songs! They’re too boring.” OMG, I laughed so hard. I have too many religious Christmas songs in my repertoire…
- getting to talk to both my sister and my mom on the phone
Also for The Swede:

Hedgie Blasts Off! (one of the books I found for Max today)
I’m off to upload photos to the boys’ school website and then finish my Christmas cards. Callooh! Callay!
It’s sad, but my hands were cramping today because I was… (wait for it…) writing with a pen. I know! Why? Why write with a pen when there are keyboards everywhere? I got through about half of my Christmas cards today before having to take a break to let my hands rest. If I weren’t actually writing individual notes in all of the cards, I could just put the laser printer to good use. Alas, I am stuck with the pain. Rough life, yeah?
I just saw a commercial for Ferrero Rocher and it made my mouth water. Those little things are basically filled with Nutella! Hmm. Nutella pellets. Nutellets. Yes.
Christmas: less than three weeks away. Presents purchased: ZERO. Tomorrow morning I’m going to try to get all of the boys’ gifts taken care of; the main challenge after that will be hiding everything such that it isn’t discovered too early. I’d rather just think about the Nutella some more.
We made it through the Christmas party– Josh actually golfed! Crazy, hmm? I was forced to endure a mani/pedi and a Swedish massage. I would have been happy to stay on that heated massage table all day long. I’m not sure the kids actually realized we were gone; my mom was here to stay with them and they had a blast. Max almost didn’t let her go back home today.
The tree is up… I still need to put the lights on the house, but I’m hoping it will get a little warmer before I attempt that. Max & Khai had a good time digging through all of the boxes of decorations– for a while there it looked as if Christmas had thrown up all over my living room. My poor tree has made it through ten years now, but I think it will be retiring in January. Hopefully I will find a nice, big, pre-lit tree on sale after the holidays– the fewer strings of lights I have to untangle, the better.
Susan posted a link to Weird Al’s Wikipedia entry today, and not moments after reading that we happened to be flipping channels and caught Weird Al performing White and Nerdy live on VH1. It made me so, so, so happy. We were lucky and caught it while trying to escape The 700 Club (aka Scary TV), which comes on immediately after Whose Line Is It Anyway. There is always a mad scramble to change the channel as fast as humanly possible as soon as the 700 Club logo pops up. I might be addicted to Whose Line– Santa promised me that Ryan and Colin would be under my tree Christmas morning.
I almost forgot! This makes me so happy: in the school closings section on one of our local news station’s websites, there is an option to receive emails and/or text messages when your school district has a closure. YAY! As Josh noted, the internet is beautiful.
Now if my fridge could text me when we’re out of eggs, that would ROCK.
