Here, there and everywhere.

  • JPG magazine’s current call for submissions ends in ten days– the themes for this issue are big, self-portraiture, and hometown. How is it that I know so many good photographers? You should be published!
  • Live Simple: the website is a mess, ironically enough, but it’s got some good information and some nice insights. Why does simplifying my life seem like such a difficult task?
  • For Anne & Eiwe– Come Out and Play, a festival dedicated to street games with play, talks and celebrations takes place this weekend. It’s hosted by The Eyebeam Art & Technology Center, which might be the pinnacle of all things awesome. Worth checking out: the Eyebeam reBlog.
  • Path to Freedom and Deliberate Life, linked here so I will not lose the URLs. Note to self: remember to dig through these sites.
  • OMG! LED throwies! (warning– embedded quicktime movie with music)
  • Have you read the speech Al Gore gave eariler this week at the NYU? It’s a worthwhile read and I’m glad that he presents some real ideas that work towards solutions rather than just noting that the environment is in trouble. Because yeah, we get that already.

Thank you, Jess, for this morning’s coffee, books and conversation. I wrote a poem today for the first time in nearly a year! Sad, but true.

Dinner was moussaka, a new recipe. It wasn’t as flavorful as my usual, but took 1.5 hours rather than three. I’ll adjust it next time. For the side dish I made a nectarine and blueberry salad with ground cardamom and honey– different and tasty. Someday I will actually set up the foodblog complete with my recipes modded to avoid wheat and dairy. Someday! And at that time I will actually measure ingredients and pay attention to what I am doing… mostly I just throw a pinch of this and a dash of that into the mix and hope for the best. I’m lucky that my boys eat nearly everything in the world– how many kids eat their brussels sprouts first and then ask for seconds?

Dear Internet,

I’m not very good about writing to you lately. Sorry about that– life is just really busy and I must be getting old because I go to bed earlier. If only someone would invent some sort of wireless thought transmitter, you’d see a lot more from me. Probably too much.

BUT! I do still love you, and it’s not for lack of things to say that I am not in touch as much… just lack of time and energy.

Love,
Erica

Happy birthday, Annesta!!!
I will deliver (late) bday hugs in person soon. :)

These past few weeks have been a whirlwind; there’s no sign of stillness in the near future, but that’s all right. I’ve still got family in town, so while missing Josh terribly, at least I’m not feeling quite as isolated.

Does this mean I need to get a life? I get chills every time I see a preview for Battlestar Galactica. The new season starts on October 6… I’ve been waiting impatiently since the last season ended. I LOVE THIS SHOW. A post on metafilter pointed me to webisodes available for download on SciFi.com; there will be two per week until the 6th. Yaaay! And to further solidify my geekitude? Joss Whedon’s take on Battlestar: …I think it’s so passionate, textured, complex, subversive and challenging that it dwarfs everything on TV. Or in theaters. Or boho perfomances spaces. Stuff hanging in the Tate? Not as cool. I’m not gonna go on, because I have to get back to work and because if I really start, this post will crash the internet from sheer length.

Also downloaded this week: a 55-minute podcast from The Orb with remixes of everything from Little Fluffy Clouds to Freebird. Strangeness abound, but I like it.

What are you listening to lately?

I have a new digital camera. Evidence soon.

Happy weekend, everybody. Hug the ones you love…. and then hug them some more.
