I’ve got nothing of interest to write about, but that’s not entirely unusual. The weather’s been *perfect* and that’s resulted in lots of outdoor time, both at the park and in our backyard. The boys love their fort. :)
I forgot to mention that last Friday (a week ago already… wow) we went to the Dallas Zoo. The boys had a good time, and Max rode a carousel for the very first time. I’m not sure what their favorite animals were, but both Max and Khai were quite pleased with the alligator and elephant squirt-top bottles they got at the crazy-expensive zoo restaurant. I think we paid $2.75 for each one, and ended up dumping out the Hi-C inside so I could fill them with water instead. Yeah, I’m one of those mean parents who doesn’t let my kids drink Kool-Aid or soda. Sugar = bad bad bad. In any case, they’ve talked more about those than the animals.
Last Friday night (don’t you love this time-delay blogging? …only a week behind), Josh went out to see a movie with a friend. I decided to watch a movie while being crafty and working on my mom’s bday present… and ended up watching Save the Last Dance. Let me just state now that I am not proud to admit that I watched the entire movie. It was bad. Really bad. How do movies like that actually get made, much less distributed? Cheesy AND entirely predictable. Ugh. This is also a statement on our sad Friday night movie selection, despite paying for a hundred or so channels via satellite. One positive thing is that Julia Stiles has grown from the experience– her acting skills are much better in the more recent films I’ve seen her in. She’s got the greatest voice… I’m only the tiniest bit envious.
Not cheesy nor predictable: Crash. Excellent movie, though hard to watch. It’s good that I didn’t see it in a theater, considering the shameless sobbing that ensued.
I don’t think there’s anything too exciting planned for this weekend, but hopefully we’ll get out to Pumpkin Express so the boys can pick out some pumpkins. We tried buying some at the store, but most of them in the big bin were moldy. EWWWW! There’s no way I’m paying for moldy pumpkins. Disgusting. Max loved the Pumpkin Express last year (he went with his preschool class), so I know he’d be happy to go again. Who knows, maybe I’ll get lucky and I’ll get to ride the little train, too! One can hope.
A commercial for Good Night, and Good Luck was just on a bit ago. Robert Downey, Jr. is in the film, and I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for him. Why? Because of a dream I had, like ten years ago. Yeah, it sounds lame… but in the dream, he was the nicest, most genuine person! So real. Ever since then, it feels like I know him. Me an’ Robert? Old friends! Also, I’m reminded of my years-long, rather intense dislike of George Clooney. It’s waning some, perhaps due to my ever-increasing age and/or indifference. Oh, the crazy is showing again!
I should stop typing now.
RE: your dislike of George Clooney
I have this serious dislike for Andie McDowell. I’m not sure why. She just rubs me the wrong way. I don’t particularly like Denise Richards, but she’s in one of my favorite movies (”Drop Dead Gorgeous”), and I can kind of stand her in it. But Andie - I just can’t watch movies where she’s in it. If for some reason I try to get through one, I’ll sit there and whine about what a horrible person she is throughout the entire movie. “Groundhog Day” was especially excruciating for me.
@Cynthia: I’m glad someone understands the dislike thing… it’s almost a reverse crush. Maybe. Or something?
I have to say, though, that I really like Andie Macdowell, especially in Groundhog Day… but that’s ok, we can still be friends. Hee! :p I’ve never seen Drop Dead Gorgeous– guess I should check it out.
Julia Stiles is uber hot and has always impressed me. I agree with you, she’s getting better and better.
If you haven’t gone to Pumpkin Express yet, Jess and I would love to go with you. I’ve been meaning to photograph a pumpkin patch this year and I need all the fresh pumpkin seeds I can get.
@Jim: We haven’t been yet– the boys are still coughing. :( I’ll get in touch with you before we go.
